Description
Gradual ascent through shady woodland to the model owl on Boddington Hill, along woodland edge with long rolling views over farm fields and past some substantial rural properties at The Hale. Up a quiet, less used woodland path and joining the Ridgeway path through Barn Wood and past Boswells estate. Through the churchyard in Wendover, past the stream in Witchell Meadow and along to Wendover town for refreshment at one of the several choices of cafe. Cash is preferred at one at least.
Return along the Wendover Arm tow path from its start in Wharf Road, a particularly lovely part of the canal with clear water and water birds, either following the road to Halton, or, depending on conditions, crossing at Olivers Bridge, past the rifle range (noisy when in use...beware dog owners) and crossing Halton Camp playing fields before returning on pavements, and past the RAF Halton entrance with its 1956 Hawker Hunter F.6 jet displayed outside.
A few hills in the early stages. Very flat after Barn Wood. A couple of stiles.
Prepare
Dress appropriately for the weather, there could be mud so if it has been wet good boots are essential, not trainers. Walking poles recommended for those who use them.
Dress according to the weather, layers recommended and small rucksack for carrying.
Dogs
Well behaved dogs are welcome and will need to be on a lead in some locations.
We will pass through fields which have potential for sheep, cows or horses.
