UPDATE Weather Warning.
Forecast is the walk will start below freezing, so be prepared for slippery as well as cold conditions. We are likely to warm up in the sunshine so bring a rucksack to carry removed layers of clothing. Slippery conditions can be dangerous so please only proceed with caution, and at your own risk. If you have studded cleats to fit onto your footware that may be advisable, and please drive carefully. 15 minutes has been added to the length of the walk but it could even take till 1pm as we slow for slippery conditions.
Description
Mostly footpaths. Small amount of pavement walking beside road in part of Aston Clinton.
The main climb is early on in the walk so you will soon know if the pace suits you. After that there are some descents before the remainder of the walk which is fairly flat but brisk-paced.
The walk starts along Haddington Hill into Wendover Woods to the top of Aston Hill. Views out toward Ivinghoe Beacon. Down through Chiltern Forest Golf Club (where walkers are welcome and toilet available if we take advantage of refreshments offered). Through Ragpits nature reserve. Along small stretch of canal. Over Wellhead Bridge. Through Aston Clinton. Buckland, through the church yard. Views out to the Arla mega-dairy. Back into Aston Clinton.
We stop for refreshment at the cafe in Aston Clinton Park. There is a disabled toilet.
Past Halton Airfield. Back into Wendover Woods. Past Halton Camp, back to the car park.
Prepare
Dress appropriately for the weather, there could be mud so if it has been wet good boots are essential, not trainers. Walking poles recommended for those who use them.
Dress according to the weather, layers recommended and small rucksack for carrying.
Dogs
Well behaved dogs are welcome and will need to be on a lead in some locations.
We will pass through fields which have potential for sheep, cows or horses.
