Description
Except for a short stretch of road in the hamlet of Dunsmer this walk is along footpaths and bridleways. There is a steep descent early on and a steep ascent near the end and additional hills along the walk through fields and woodlands with lovely views.
We stop for purchase of optional refreshment at Buckmoorend Farm Shop and outdoor kitchen 3/4 of the way along. They have a portaloo.
From the car park we start off level directly to Coombe Hill Monument, admire the view briefly before descending very steeply down the nose of the hill to Hill End Farm. Along the bottom of Bacombe Hill, up to the tumulus and along to Dunsmer via fields and woodland. Little London, Russell Farm and Hampden Leaf Wood to Little Hampden Common. A little of the Icknield Way Trail and Hengrove Wood to our stop for refreshment at Buckmoorend outdoor kitchen and farm shop. Afterwards, a short ascent along the Ridgeway Path before turning off to take a low route along Lodge Hill to the foot of Coombe to finally return very steeply up to the carpark.
