Description
There will be a steep descent early on in the walk.
A lovely Autumn walk with wonderful Chiltern Hill views from Coombe Hill, around Chequers, Beacon Hill and Chequers Knapp (believed to be a natural chalk knoll rather than a prehistoric burial mound). We continue past Great Kimble, crossing Askett to visit St. Dunstan’s Church in Monks Risborough, being the oldest recorded parish in England and the 16th Century dovecote. We return via the pretty village of Whiteleaf, around the foot of Pulpit Hill and take our optional refreshment yet again at Buckmoorend outdoor kitchen for drinks and hot food sourced from the farm with other local produce available. Please note there is only a rudimentary portaloo.
Prepare
Dress appropriately for the weather, there could be mud so if it has been wet good boots are essential, and in any case, good grip to the soles of your footwear. Walking poles recommended for those who use them especially with the steep descent early on as the chalky escarpment can be very slippery if damp. Dress according to the weather, layers recommended and small rucksack for carrying.
Dogs
Well behaved dogs are welcome and will need to be on a lead in some locations.
We pass through fields which have potential for sheep, cows or horses.
Booking
Booking not required for this walk.
