Description
Apart from a short steep ascent at the beginning and a longer descent afterwards, this walk is mainly free from hills so the slight extra distance today compared to usual is unlikely to be noticeable.
Panoramic view from ‘Paul’s Knob’ next to Pitstone Hill overlooking Pitstone Windmill and Mentmore Towers. A freshly cleared, previously blocked path overlooking the quarry pits. Canal path to Startops Reservoir where we will see some waterbirds. Marsworth church with its pretty timber and flint lychgate. Grand Union canal to the swing bridge on the edge of Great Seabrook. Rural edge of Pitstone including smart new houses.
We stop for refreshment at the Daisychain Cafe in the Old Schoolhouse Community Centre in Ivinghoe at about 12pm. There are good multi-sex toilets.
Afterwards, back to the car park with good views of Ivinghoe Beacon along the way.
Prepare
Dress appropriately for the weather with good grippy footwear. Walking boots recommended if mud is expected.
Layers recommended and small rucksack for carrying lightweight and waterproof clothing and drinking water.
Dogs
Well behaved dogs are welcome and will need to be on a lead in some locations.
We will pass through fields which have potential for sheep, cows or horses.
